According to Article 4 of the Regulations on the Permission and Administration of the Employment of Foreign Workers, a working holiday visa to Taiwan is deemed a work permit. In principle, a working holidaymaker can engage in any type of work without restrictions. However, those engaged in a specialized or professional occupation such as doctor, architect, or accountant must comply with related laws and regulations. Foreign working holidaymakers shall also be employed in accordance with Article 46 of the Employment Service Act as well as other regulations on the employment of foreign nationals.
Below are some examples of jobs under the working holiday scheme in accordance with the requirements and application review standards formulated by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications based on Subparagraphs 1 to 6 of Paragraph 1 of Article 46 of the Employment Service Act.
(1) Hospitality industry: Specialized or technical work in hotel management and food and beverage preparation, for which there is a shortage of local talent.
(2) Tourism industry
- Specialized or technical work involving planning, development, and management of amusement parks
- Arts and performing arts: Employees must provide related work permits or recommendation or certification documents from an official organization in their home country.
(3) Travel industry
- Specialized or technical roles such as business manager, tour guide, and tour manager that contribute to the further development of the tourism industry
- Those seeking employment as tour guide or tour manager must first acquire a related license, while those seeking employment as travel business manager must present certification that they have completed a related program.
